ACADEMY
GELDING
PUD has progressed so well over the last few months. He is a relaxed going boy and has taken to his education so well. He is going to make a perfect pleasure mount!
Stay tuned, as we will soon be checking in with Academy when he has settled in with his family who are eagerly awaiting his arrival! 🎉
FRIENDLY DRAGON
GELDING
Friendly Dragon is as every bit of a warhorse you would read about. This gelding had 83 starts and retired at 10.
What a mighty server to the industry! He raced mostly in metropolitan Brisbane for trainer Les Ross and he was sold in the latter part of his career to Rockhampton to win another 4 races with Jamie McConachy and Jess Ladbrook.
This thoroughbred has heart and together with our re-trainers we can’t wait to see what he is going to show us!
HIBIYA
GELDING
HIBIYA is a 4yo gelding from Mount Isa who is also the youngest through the program to date.
HIBIYA was adopted by 14 yr old Maeve and now calls the picturesque area of Cedar Creek home, joining the Riley family and their 4 beloved horses.
Maeve is so excited for the next stage of HIBIYA’s retraining and has her sights set on interschool competitions and going through the grades of eventing. However, to begin with though they are happy to take it step by step with professional coaching and of course mum’s guidance.
Maeve is smitten with her new equine partner sharing with us “I felt an instant connection, and could tell he just wanted to please with a really great attitude and willingness to learn new things. I am super excited for the future Hibiya and I have together”
KING SOLOMON
GELDING
KING SOLOMON this week was transferred to Valley RDA based on beautiful grounds of Tullebudgera Pony Club.
He will join a group of horses who are used to provide fun and therapy to people with a wide range of disabilities.
He will now be on trial where he will receive further training in specific to RDA and requirements for their program. He will also have ridden work by a regular accredited rider to further his retraining.
We are so humbled to be able to help Valley RDA on their next therapy horse. They cater for people with all kinds of disability including intellectual disabilities, specific learning disorders, injuries resulting from accidents, cerebral palsy, spinal bifida, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, visual and hearing impairments, autism and amputees.
“Solly” has a beautiful nature, he is kind and patient around people of all ages and abilities and we feel confident he will transition well into this very important job!
MAGIC TOWN
GELDING
Magic was turned out beautifully, all a glow and was so well behaved which was the win Bettina was wanting from the outing! 🙌
Looking forward this month, Bettina and Magic will be competing in a Dressage competition and will continue their at home training and lessons as they work towards the major goal of an Eventing ODE later in the year!
ARTICUS - (QRIC RAW Grant Recipient)
GELDING
He is no stranger to travel and the limelight!
As a tried racehorse, he was purchased by @australianbloodstock from Europe and once lined up as a favourite in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup! He spent a bulk of his career racing in the southern states.
He has recently resided on the Gold Coast - a nice wind down to his illustrious career, enjoying regular beach outings as company to his stable-mates.
CHAPTER AND VERSE (Macca)
GELDING
Macca is showing that he is very versatile to different skill training and most importantly really gives his all to his work. There is not much Macca doesn’t seem to handle, always possessing a positive and go get ‘em attitude to his work! Re-trainer Kate is extremely happy with how he is coming along as we head into the last month of his retraining… commenting “ Macca is a careful and scopey jumper! he really is such a character and I am going to miss him when he is ready to move on, but will make a great performance horse and someone very happy” 🥰❤️
GALEA WARRIOR
GELDING
Our newest addition is a big package in every sense. He’s big in stature, big in racing experience having 40 starts, and big in exposure racing on 23 tracks between Victoria and Queensland in his career accruing just shy of 140k
Formerly trained by Shane Nichols in Victoria, he was transferred to Bob Burrow in Mount Isa and won 11 races. His feature Wins include The Maxwelton Cup and Les Huddy Memorial Bracelet. He also took his place in the prestigious Battle of The Bush and in 2018 travelled to Brisbane for this highly competitive race finishing only 3.5 lengths off the lead. Sadly he bled that day.
Remarkably, in his 28 starts with Burrow, Galea Warrior averaged a win or a second place only once finishing outside 4th 🤩
We have only heard what a beautiful kind patient horse Galea Warrior was during his career and a fun fact! ….He was once used as a clerk of the course mid way through a race preparation! Am sure he will be showing these same qualities in his next career.
@kr_eventing.tb_retraining will be the retrainer taking on his education and our sponsor @barastoc_horse and @1equine_au will be looking after his nutritional needs during this time.
We are so happy to give back to this horse who has given so much of his heart to racing 🙏
IDOL DRAGON
GELDING
Puff is almost 4, and is an athletic traditional stayer type thoroughbred standing at 16”2.
Despite his youth, he is relaxed and sensible.
Professionally retrained by both Shane and Mattea, he is established in basic dressage and currently learning laterals. He has schooled over a XC course and has scope with jumping.
Puff will excel in a performance or pleasure home… he is a lovely all-rounder.
LARRY
GELDING
This is well and truly a happy ending for Larry 🌈 who only last year was left injured, without a home or owner to care for him. Luckily the vets came to the rescue and we were called to assist with his rehoming.
Now Larry not only has been given the gift of education 📚and a new job , he has a loving and adoring mum in Annie 🥰
When we caught up with Annie and Larry it was clear to see they were a perfect match
❤️ 💜
Annie and Larry have hit the ground running in the @runcorn_pony_club pony events and only last weekend won again! He was also awarded the best OTT in his class.
“I love how willing he is to try anything, especially doing pony club we do heaps of different things. He seems to be super brave and confident with not much worrying him. I also love his cheekiness in his personality” Annie commented.
PURTON
GELDING
Purton, you could say never was able to have his full potential realised. Bought with a lucrative price tag of 600k there were high hopes for his career success. He did have 3 wins before problems arose with his breathing. Unfortunately operations and procedures were unsuccessful to have him continue his career as a racehorse.
PURTON is a handsome and sound legged thoroughbred with a beautiful and soft natured heart and a kind eye. With professional vets advice he could live a life happily with gentle exercise.
We have found in a short space of time that PURTON’s limitations are becoming over shadowed by some special qualities and skills that could make him suitable for various Western Performance disciplines.
PURTON is a gentleman to handle on the ground, groom, rug and lead. He has basic education with horsemanship as well as being broken to saddle. He is sensible and a quick learner and enjoys learning equitation and problem solving activities.
BOMBARDING
GELDING
He was sold through the @karakachat sales in 2016 and kicked his racing career off in Sydney with @pfiefferracing and earlier this year moved to @scturfclub under @kendrick_racing.
In our pre assessment interviews with his trainers, farrier, grooms and handlers; one recurring word that kept coming up in conversation was “gentleman”. He seems to have made a very positive impression on all those he has come In contact with!
DIXIE ROUGE
GELDING
Dixie is a 10yo gelding who stands at 16.2hh He is by stallion Dixie Prospect (USA) out of a Sequalo mare Redqualo. He was lightly raced having 32 starts in total.
Dixie kicked his racing career off with Michelle Fleming in Tamworth. As a late 2yo he did win his maiden, however it wasn’t until he was moved to Trainer Peter McCleish in Mount Isa 🏜️he would win his 2nd race, following some 11 starts later and almost 2 years spelling on Michelle’s farm.
Dixie Rouge was a special horse to the McCleish family. He won his first 2 starts with them and achieved another two wins a year later. From 17 starts with them, he was in the placings 13 times and retired at the end of 2021 year.
However the reason he held great sentiment because he was the last horse Peter would train before he passed away in 2022.
He has since been enjoying his retirement in a paddock with the Morris Family. Whilst Dixie has been extremely well cared for, it was a unanimous decision that Dixie had more to give. It was time for him to be given a job.
IM A RIPPA
GELDING
Retiring at the end of 2019, ‘I’m a Rippa’ has accumulated over 1.2 million in earnings from 38 starts.
Highlights of his career include winning the prestigious @magicmillions QTIS sprint race in 2017 with @stephen_baster on board, X2 Group 3 wins, that being the BRC Sprint and George Moore @brisbaneracingclub Doomben. Also winning the Listed Eyeliner Sprint @ipswichturfclub
Speaking with many people associated with the gelding, we have gained insight to his character, temperament and quirks, what he likes and what he doesn’t.
LAST OF THE MOHICANS
GELDING
Welcoming 4yo gelding LASTOFTHE MOHICANS (Helmet x Royal Isolt) aka “Mo” to the foundation 🎉
Mo has travelled to us all the way from Rockhampton from the Jamie McConachy stable and is our @lexus_rockhampton sponsored retiree (he even modelled for them recently 🤩)
Mo was Melbourne born and bred but never went through a sale. As a 3yo colt he was purchased by @mcconachyracing and wife @jesmichelle after he wasn’t looking like making the grade down there.
However he won first up for Jamie and Jess and again after his spell but after a few placings and not setting the track on fire, the decision was made to retire him.
Owned by Jess, she explained to us the immense soft spot she has for the gelding 🥰”he was the apple 🍏 of my eye… he was known as The Golden child of the stable… 😇everyone loved him with his sweet temperament and lovely ride. He is so great to have around and just wants to be your mate…. i just want to give him the best chance possible as an OTT”
WIRNPA
GELDING
8yo gelding WIRNPA by the @darleystallions super sire Exceed and Excel out of Living Spirit.
WIRNPA kicked off his racing career in the @godolphin stable in NSW but in his 4yo year was bought by new owners who raced him in Queensland ☀️. He achieved 6 career wins and 9 placings from 37 starts
WIRNPA retired with no significant injuries. However like most professional athletes who have had a rigorous training regime over a period of time - there were a few niggles starting to show after his last races. It was then the ownership group called it a day and gave him a lengthy retirement spell before thinking of the next step.
